Akshay Kumar Gets Indian Citizenship on Independence Day

On 15th August, Akshay Kumar tweeted that he has finally received his Indian citizenship and passport.

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has often been criticized for possessing a Canadian passport in the past, instead of an Indian one. Once, during an interview Akshay had revealed the story behind getting a Canadian passport. He had said, “My films were not working and I had to work’. My friend was in Canada and he said, ‘Come here’. I applied and I got in. I went there for work. That time, I had just two films left for release and I was lucky that they both became superhits. My friend said, ‘Go back, start working again’. I got some more films and I kept getting more work. I never thought that I should get this passport changed but now yes, I have applied to get my passport changed.” He added, "India is everything to me. Whatever I have earned, whatever I have gained is from here. I feel bad when people say things without knowing anything."

He applied for Indian citizenship in 2019, but the process was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now on 15th August, the actor tweeted that he has finally received his Indian citizenship. Sharing a picture of the same, the actor expressed his happiness over the news. Akshay Kumar said on social media, sharing the registration document, "Dil aur citizenship, dono Hindustani. Happy Independence Day! Jai Hind!,".
On the work front, Akshay was last seen in OMG 2 alongside Pankaj Tripathi, which is currently running in cinemas and has been performing well at the box office.
