Ahmedabad Hotel Prices Rise to Rs.1 Lakh For India-Pak Match
Hotel room rates in Ahmedabad have skyrocketed, nearly 10 times for 15th October 2023 India Pakistan match with hotels charging around ? 1 lakh.
The ICC recently announced the schedule for the upcoming ODI World Cup to be held in India. Everyone is looking forward to the clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan. It has been announced that the match will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 15 October 2023.
As soon as the schedule was released, though the World Cup is about 100 days away, hotels in Ahmedabad have started receiving bookings in large numbers from international cricket groups, fans, sponsors, VVIPs etc. Hotel room rates here have skyrocketed, nearly 10 times in some cases for 15th October 2023 with some hotels charging close to ? 1 lakh. As per the hotel booking portal 'booking.com', the rent for one deluxe room for 2nd July 2023 is ? 5,700 at Ahmedabad’s Welcome Hotel by ITC Hotels. However, the same hotel will charge ? 73,000 for a day on 15th October 2023. Renaissance Ahmedabad, which now charges nearly ? 8,000 for a day, is showing the per-day room rent at ? 91,000 on 15th October. Cama Hotel on Sabarmati Riverfront, a budget-friendly hotel that normally charges about ? 3,000, has hiked its rental to ? 27,000 for 15th October.
Also many hotels are already sold out for 14th to 16th October and many of them are 70 - 80% booked. According to Hotels and Restaurants Association (HRA) – Gujarat, the prices were hiked by hotels to match with the demand, mostly from Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) as well as upper-middle-class cricket fans living in other states. HRA-Gujarat spokesperson Abhijeet Deshmukh said, “If the hoteliers think that the demand is very high, they will try to make some profit because they are assured that rooms will be full despite higher rates. Once the demand drops, the room rentals will also come down.” He added that budget hotels in the city have not yet seen such a surge. The middle-class cricket fans would prefer such places. However, they usually decide at the last moment and depending on availability of match tickets. The prices are expected to rise later.
