Acid Poured on 16-Year-Old Daughter for Maintaining Social Status

Driven by a warped sense of "honor," a father and his friend murdered his 16-year-old daughter and attempted to hide her identity after she refused to end a relationship.

The weight of "honor" is a heavy burden, and for Vijay Kumar Chaubey, it became a motive for murder. In August 2025, his 16-year-old daughter, Vandana, ran away with an older man. Though police returned her and jailed the boyfriend, the girl remained defiant, continuing the relationship after his release.

For Vijay, a university bus driver in Lucknow, the social stigma was a stain he couldn't scrub away, despite moving homes multiple times to escape the whispers of his community.

Driven to a dark extremity, Vijay recruited his friend, Abdul Mannan, under the pretense of taking Vandana to Rajasthan for a "spiritual healing." On the night of April 13, they stopped on a lonely road in Barabanki.

While Vandana slept in the backseat, Vijay began to strangle her. When she resisted, Abdul joined in, using his gamchha to finish the deed. In a final, desperate attempt to hide her identity, they doused her face with acid and, spooked by approaching headlights, abandoned her body on the roadside.

The cover-up began on April 16, when Vijay filed a fake kidnapping report against the boyfriend.

However, his story crumbled under the instincts of his own father—a retired police inspector—who grew suspicious of Vijay’s sudden disappearance and demanded a deep investigation. The boyfriend provided the final nail in the coffin: an audio recording from Vandana confirming she was leaving willingly with her father.

Lucknow and Barabanki police eventually connected the dots between a missing girl and an unidentified body found days earlier.

Through call records, Vijay was traced to his in-laws' home in Gonda. Both he and Abdul were arrested, eventually confessing that they had sacrificed a daughter’s life to save a family’s "reputation." It remains a chilling reminder of how pride can transform a protector into a predator.
