70-Year-Old Returns To India After Years In Pakistan Jail

70 year old Shamshuddin returned to India after spending years in Pakistan jail on espionage charges.

Shamsuddin had moved to Pakistan with an acquaintance in 1992 on getting a 90-day visit visa and then settled there after getting Pakistan’s citizenship in 1994. In 2012, the Pakistan government arrested him on charges of espionage and locked him up at a jail in Karachi. Since then he has been suffering in Pakistan jail. Shamsuddin reached India through the Attari-Wagah border on 26th October and stayed for the required quarantine period for Covid – 19 in Amritsar. 70-year-old Shamsuddin could not hold back his tears when he came back to India. After completing his quarantine he went to Kanpur. Police then took him to his house on 15th November. People had gathered there with garlands, waiting for his arrival.

The crowd surrounded him and hugged him. He was congratulated for returning home after decades. A police officer said, “On reaching home, after embracing his family members, he cried a lot in immense happiness and said he made a big mistake by going to Pakistan.” Shamsuddin told reporters that “Indian’s are treated very badly in Pakistan. They are treated like enemies. There is a lot of bribery and corruption in Pakistan.”
