A four-storey under-construction building located in Dharwad Karnataka collapsed on Tuesday evening on 19 March 2019. The building was under construction, but the first two floors were already occupied. The locals, Fire and Emergency services officials and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) worked all night to help save the victims. They were able to rescue 28 persons till now. 2 have been killed and more than 30 people are still trapped under the wreckage. The officials said that till now they could only find 7 of the trapped victims. Oxygen and water are being supplied to those trapped under the debris. The injured are being treated at the local hospital. 500 policemen and Home Guards and more than 30 ambulances were present at the scene.

There was a huge crowd that gathered at the scene. It became very difficult for the police to carry out the rescue operations while managing the crowd. This is why the police had to implement “Section 144”. Which means that if the police see more more than 4 people gathered group, they would have the authority to arrest them. Karnataka CM H.D Kumaraswamy made sure the NDRF was flown to Dharwad in a special flight. The officials are not sure about the cause of the collapse. It could be due to poor quality of construction or a faulty construction plan.
