2 Deaths Reported After COVID Vaccination

Two persons have died after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, but neither deaths are related to vaccines.

A total of 3.8 lakh people have been vaccinated since the rollout of the coronavirus vaccines from 16th January. 580 cases of adverse reactions have been observed and seven persons have been hospitalized. Two persons have died also but neither deaths are related to vaccines.

One person who died after receiving the vaccine was a healthcare worker in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh . Mahipal Singh, who was 46 years old, worked as a ward boy at the district hospital in Moradabad. MC Garg, Moradabad's Chief Medical Officer, informed that he was inoculated around Saturday 16th Jan noon. Singh was given the first dose of Covishield. On Sunday 17th Jan he felt breathless and complained of chest congestion. Garg categorically denied any link between Singh's death and the vaccine. Garg said, ‘He did night duty on Saturday too and there were no problems.’

Singh's family, however, claimed otherwise, with son Vishal saying, "I feel it was the side effects of the vaccination."The family also revealed that he never tested positive for the highly contagious disease.

The district administration ordered a post-mortem. A panel of doctors studied the reports and said that the death wasn't associated with the vaccine's side effects. Samples of the deceased's lung, heart, and blood have been preserved by the panel for further testing.

The second person to die was a 43-year-old man in Bellary, Karnataka. The government said he had died of cardio-pulmonary failure. The postmortem is yet to be done. Karnataka health minister K Sudhakar said the man did not suffer a heart attack because of the vaccine. "The man had a massive heart attack. He had a history of diabetes and other health problems.”
