18-Year-Old Defends Herself From 3 Men Using Karate

In today’s video, we’ll tell you about a story of how a young Indian girl from Bengal defended herself against a sexual assault by using the self-defence techniques she learnt.

In today’s time when crimes are growing around the world, self defence is something everyone should be aware of. Especially sexual crimes against women and girls, which have seen a drastic rise over the past few years. In today’s video, we’ll tell you about a story of how a young Indian girl from Bengal defended herself against a sexual assault by using the self-defence techniques she learnt. Although the story is from 2018, it is an important one to be brought to our viewers' eyes. An 18-year-old girl started learning martial arts ten months ago, fought off and overpowered three men who allegedly attempted to sexually assault her in West Bengal’s Birbhum district.

The incident took place when the girl had gone out to a shop near her home at Kamarpara in Ward 11 of Sainthia municipality. The shop was about 500 metres away from her home, but the road leading to the shop was deserted. She was confronted by the three men who passed lewd remarks and then blocked her path. One of them allegedly caught hold of her hand. The mother of the woman said her daughter attacked the men after they did not listen to her warning to back off. Thankfully, the girl was a keen student of martial arts. The accused were not aware of her skills. She initially asked them to restrain themselves, but they did not listen to her and continued with their lewd behaviour. Then, as an ultimate consequence, the girl decided to confront them and finally showed them her skills. The mother of the teen girl lodged a complaint with the police after the incident on Monday evening.

The three accused who were then identified as Amit Sahani, Dip Mandal and Bhaskar Mandal were arrested after people caught them in Sainthia, about 195 km away from Kolkata. Police said they were in their mid-twenties. With the help of this story we would like to convey the idea that although violence might not be an answer to anything, every woman in this country should be aware of some basic self-defence techniques which might help her to get away with such heart chilling situations. Moreover, self-defence skills such as martial arts, Judo-Karate should be included as a part of extra-curricular activities from early school days.
