18 Year Old Boy Drowns in Pawna Lake Lonavala

Swimming in unprotected places is usually fun but sometimes the events turn for the worse. An 18 year old boy drowned in Maharashtra’s Pawna lake. Here’s how!

An unfortunate incident has come to light that a young man from Mumbai who came for a walk in the Pavana Dam area drowned. The name of the deceased is Sahil Vijay Sawant. After getting the information about this incident, the Lonavala rural police rushed to the spot and started the work of removing the body of the youth from the water. The victim had recently completed his Class XII exams and had come with a group of 18 friends on a picnic on Friday. According to authorities, the group traveled to Lonavala over the weekend and had reserved a private villa.

On Sunday morning, the group checked out and went to the Pawna dam. Few of them entered the deep dam waters. While swimming with some of his friends, Sawant disappeared into deep waters.

Meanwhile, on getting information about this, a team of Lonavla Rural Police has reached the spot and efforts are underway to remove the body of this youth from the water. According to police sources, the search operation is challenging because the water stock in the dam is between 50 and 100 feet deep. Shivdurg Mitra Lonavala and Wildlife Protection Society Maval have been called for this. A lot of similar instances have come to sight when people don’t realize how deep the water actually is. They underestimate the depth of the lake or the pond. Please take care and do not swim in any risky places. There are no life bats, no lifeguards and also no life jackets over there.
