16yr Old Girl Raped by 400 People in Beed, Maharashtra

Motherless minor girl married off by father, raped by 400 people including cop over 6 months.

Maharashtra is the fourth worst-hit Indian state in terms of crimes against women, according to last year's data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). In 2020, the state recorded 18,769 First Information Reports (FIRs) pertaining to sexual assault, i.e. a sexual offense was reported every two hours. Now another shocking case of rape has emmerged in Beed, Maharashtra. A 16 year old girl's mother passed away nearly two years ago, following which her father married her off to a man. She stayed at her matrimonial home for over a year before returning to her family, as her father-in-law used to harass her.
However her father refused to keep her home and told her to go back to her husband’s home. She did not go and ended up begging at a bus stand in Ambajogai. In Ambajogai, she was allegedly sexually assaulted by two people who had promised to give her a job. Thereafter, she was allegedly raped by hundreds of other people. When she approached the Ambajogai Police Station, the police took no action. She claimed instead of helping her a police officer sexually harassed her. In total, she suffered sexual abuse by 400 different people in the last 6 months. Last week the girl finally managed to file a police complaint with the Superintendent of Police in Beed Raja Ramasamy and 3 people have been arrested in the case. The case has been registered under The Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for rape and molestation.Because of all the sexual abuse and rapes, the girl is now two months pregnant. The Child Welfare Committee’s process to abort the foetus is underway.
