10 Year Old Girl Raped and Murdered: Tamil Nadu Police Seen Laughing in Press Conference

A viral controversy has erupted in Tamil Nadu over separate videos showing an industries minister and a senior police official appearing to smile during media briefings about the tragic rape and murde

You may have seen the viral videos of a minister and police officers smiling while speaking about a rape and murder case in Tamil Nadu. Here’s the full story behind the controversy.

The case involves a 10-year-old girl from Coimbatore who went missing on 21 May after going out to buy groceries. After her family filed a complaint, police launched a massive search operation, checking over 250 CCTV cameras. One footage showed a man taking the girl away on a two-wheeler.

The next day, her body was found near Kannampalayam lake, around 1.5 km from her home. Police later confirmed that she had been raped and murdered.

The main accused, Karthik, who reportedly knew the victim’s family, was arrested after trying to escape from police by jumping from a building. His aide, Mohan Raj, was also arrested within 24 hours.

As the case shocked the state, two separate videos sparked outrage online.

In the first video, Tamil Nadu Industries Minister S Keerthana appeared to smile during a media interaction about the case. Critics accused her of being insensitive, while she later clarified that her expressions were being “misinterpreted” and politicised.

Soon after, another video from a police press briefing went viral. In the clip, West Zone IG R V Ramya Bharathi was seen smiling and rubbing her fingers moments before addressing the media alongside senior officers. Social media users criticised the officers’ behaviour, questioning the lack of sensitivity during such a serious case.

However, some people argued that the clip may have been recorded before the press conference officially began. As of now, Tamil Nadu Police have not issued any official clarification regarding the viral video.
