Strawberry Legs: Preventions & Treatment

Small dark spots visible at the site of the hair follicle usually after shaving are referred to as Strawberry legs. See the video to know how to prevent and treat Strawberry legs.

Many of us love sporting smooth spotless legs while donning a short dress or a skirt. And nothing seems to be much more annoying and dreadful than dark spots or bumps all over the legs. Those small dark spots visible at the site of the hair follicle are referred to as Strawberry legs or Comedones. The term strawberry legs is used as the skin resembles the dotted seeds present on the outer surface of strawberry. Strawberry legs can cause a person embarrassment, but they are not usually itchy or painful. If a person does experience pain or itching, they should see a doctor, as it may indicate the presence of an underlying condition. Strawberry legs occur when pores or hair follicles trap dead skin, oil, and bacteria. A person often experiences strawberry legs following shaving. Other skin conditions that can cause strawberry legs include clogged pores, dry skin etc. Here are some cool tips and tricks to prevent and treat strawberry legs at home

  1. Scrub your legs before shaving / waxing.

The following are homemade scrubs to exfoliate the skin.

  • Sugar and Aloe Vera Scrub

Mix 2-3 tbsp sugar, 2 tbsp fresh aloe vera gel and 1-2 tbsp of olive or coconut oil. Put it all over your legs and start massaging it in circular motions and continue scrubbing your legs for 10-15 minutes. Wash off with cool water. Pat dry and apply some moisturiser. Sugar is a natural exfoliator that removes dead skin cells and opens up pores.  Aloe vera and olive oil hydrates and moisturises the skin surface. Try to use it thrice a week.

  •  Oatmeal and Cream Scrub

Ingredients: Mix ½ cup of oatmeal, 2-3 tsp of baking soda, 2 tbsp honey and 1 tbsp cream in a bowl. Smear all of it on the legs. Let it sit for 15 minutes. Slowly scrub and wash off with cool water. Pat dry and apply moisturiser. Baking soda exfoliates the skin, while honey and cream soothe and smoothen the skin. Apply this paste twice a week for getting gorgeous legs.

  1. Before shaving / waxing, soak your legs in warm water to soften hair follicles and open pores.

  2. Avoid the cheap ones and go for a good quality razor.

  3. Opt for a moisturising and nourishing shaving cream to soften the hair and lessen irritation.

  4. Shave / wax your legs in the same direction of the hair growth to avoid strawberry spots.

  5. After shaving / waxing the legs, apply some moisturiser, oil or ice on the legs to reduce inflammation and spots.

  6. You can avoid ingrown hair and strawberry spots by going for epilator devices, waxing or laser treatment to remove hair.

Do try these useful tips. However, such spots are very natural and nothing to feel ashamed about. No matter what spot is on your body, we are all beautiful. So remember that and be confident!
