A recent study conducted by Stanford University has brought attention to the physical activity levels across various countries. The study, published in the journal "Nature," analyzed the daily step counts from the smartphones of over 7 lakh people across 46 countries. The results reveal a list of the top 10 laziest countries, including India, with some surprising findings. Here are the countries on the list, along with their average daily steps and reasons for low physical activity:

1. Indonesia (3,513 steps per day): Urban congestion and limited pedestrian infrastructure contribute to low physical activity levels.

2. Saudi Arabia (3,807 steps per day): The hot climate and cultural factors make people less inclined to walk, leading to lower daily steps.

3. Malaysia (3,963 steps per day): Rapid urbanization and a preference for motorized transport result in fewer steps taken daily.

4. Philippines (4,008 steps per day): High traffic congestion and limited pedestrian infrastructure discourage walking.

5. South Africa (4,105 steps per day): Diverse geography and socio-economic imbalances affect people’s ability to engage in physical activity.

6. Egypt (4,315 steps per day): The combination of a hot climate, urbanization, high traffic congestion, and limited pedestrian infrastructure reduces daily steps.

7. Brazil (4,289 steps per day): Similar to South Africa, Brazil's diverse geography and socio-economic challenges contribute to low physical activity.

8. India (4,297 steps per day): Urbanization and lifestyle changes have led to a preference for motorized transport over walking, even for shorter distances.

9. Mexico (4,692 steps per day): Socio-economic imbalances and urbanization, along with high traffic congestion and limited pedestrian infrastructure, result in lower physical activity.

10. USA (4,774 steps per day): Sedentary jobs and excessive dependence on personal cars for transportation are major factors leading to fewer daily steps.

Health experts suggest that most adults should aim for at least 10,000 steps per day, with anything fewer than 5,000 steps being a sign of a sedentary lifestyle. With India’s average of just 4,297 steps, there are growing concerns about whether the country is moving towards a more sedentary and lazy lifestyle.
