Chocolate Snow in Switzerland

A malfunction in the cooling ventilation system of the Lindt & Sprüngli chocolate factory caused Chocolate snow in Olten, Switzerland.

On 14th August 2020 morning, There was a malfunction in the cooling ventilation system of the Lindt & Sprüngli chocolate factory in Olten, a town in Switzerland. Because of the malfunction fragments of crushed cocoa called “cocoa nibs” began to spread in the area along with strong winds and rain to spread in the immediate vicinity of the factory. Residents of Olten were shocked because it looked like ‘Snowing Chocolate’.The powder spread around the area looked like cocoa dusting. Several pictures that were shared on social media showed a thin coat of cocoa powder on the surface of cars and window panes.The Lindt company said that one car was lightly coated and that it has offered to pay for any cleaning needed but no one has responded yet.

Lot of people tweeted the videos and photos and posted comments like “just the idea that it snows cocoa in Switzerland. That’s the sort of news we need in 2020!” Swiss Embassy UK tweeted, “We unfortunately can’t promise it will happen when you visit, but it has been snowing chocolate in #Switzerland this week.”The factory later resumed production after the ventilation system was repaired. The factory also assured people that the cocoa dust was not harmful to the people or the environment.
