Everyone in India always waits for Diwali. During Diwali, families, and friends get together, people wear the most fabulous outfits and have lots of sweets. However, slowly Diwali is becoming a festival that increases pollution. Our beloved festival has always been associated with bursting crackers but we all know that doing so damages the environment. Now we all should avoid bursting crackers in order to protect the environment. Instead of Diwali, we should do things that make Diwali memorable for us and someone else as well.

It’s the festival of lights. I will tell you 6 ways to celebrate a memorable Diwali without wasting time and money over bursting crackers:

1. There are many people who are in need but do not have enough means to celebrate the festival. Instead of buying crackers, buy sweets with that money and distribute sweets to the underprivileged which will make their Diwali happy.

 2. Bursting of crackers during Diwali is increasing air pollution; you can help change that trend by planting a sapling on the day. It will remind you of Diwali every day.

3. Stray dogs suffer the most because of the noise pollution. Feed them and save them from the noisy firecrackers.

4. Spend time playing card games with friends. Keep yourself and them away from bursting crackers and instead, spend more time talking to them and having fun.

5. Spend the day volunteering at an old age home. Not everyone is lucky enough to be with family on Diwali but you can help the aged there feel a little less lonely.

6. You might have new clothes or you will buy new clothes for Diwali. But it is winter time; there will be a lot of people who do not have proper clothes to protect themselves. Collect all the clothes that you will never wear and donate them to organizations that will send them to those in need.

Diwali is not only about crackers. Diwali means celebrating with everyone around and making memories that will last a lifetime!

Have a Happy and Safe Diwali
