Wrestler Sushil Kumar Wanted in Murder Case

An incident of a fight among wrestlers was reported May 4 near Chhatrasal Stadium in New Delhi. In this fight 23-year-old Sagar Rana was murdered. On 5th May the police filed an FIR and named Indian Wrestler Sushil Kumar and 6 others as the person responsible for Rana’s death. The police have recorded statements of some people who were involved in the fight. These people have alleged that Sushil was involved in the fight. However, immediately after the FIR, Sushil Kumar went missing.  

 

Delhi court had issued a non-bailable warrant against Sushil. Since its beem two weeks since the murder and the police are still not able to catch the wrestler, Now, the Delhi Police has announced a reward of ? 1 lakh for any information that leads to the arrest of wrestler Sushil Kumar, and Rs 50,000 for information leading to the arrest of his associate Ajay Kumar. 

 

Kumar’s lawyers filed a request for Anticipatory Bail in a Delhi Court. Anticipatory bail is a direction to release a person on bail, issued even before the person is arrested. According to the request, Sushil said that this is ruining his reputation and causing his family a lot of mental stress. However, the Judge refused his request saying that the murder is very dangerous and that Sushil must be arrested. Wrestler Sushil is seen as one of the most successful athletes in the country as he won a silver medal in the 2012 London Olympics, and won a bronze medal in Beijing Olympics. This news has shocked the sports community in India. The Wrestling Federation of India has said that the allegations against SUshil have hurt the image of Indian wrestling.
