Today is Kali Chaudas or Choti Diwali and it is the 2nd day of Diwali. On this day people pray for the souls of ancestors who are suffering in hell. People wake up in the morning and first have an oil bath and wash their hair. They then wear new clothes A large breakfast is enjoyed with relatives and friends. In the evening, a mix of bright and loud fireworks are set off in an atmosphere of joyful fun and noise. Special sweet dishes are served. House are lit with oil lamps during the evening. When people visit each other, they offer gifts and sweets. 

Diwali is a festival to be spent with friends and family. People gather together in the evening, they have dinner parties where they play cards, eat good food and enjoy themselves. Another story associated with this festival is that Narakasura was a demon who had kidnapped 16,000 princesses. On this day, Krishna then fought and killed him and freed all the 16,000 princesses. This is why the festival is also known as Naraka Chaturdashi. Diwali is the festival of lights. We place diyas and lamps so that just like our houses our minds and thoughts are bright and positive.
