Putin Meets PM Modi in India for 2+2 Talks

Putin’s 5-hr visit, 2+2 talks strengthen India and Russia’s ‘special, privileged strategic’ ties.

Russian President Vladimir Putin visited India yesterday but only for 5 hours. This was a very short but important visit. This was a brief but important visit to India that is being watched by the world. This is because Putin, who has not travelled much outside Russia during the pandemic, is making the trip to Delhi, at a time when the pandemic is still raging in his country. He has only travelled to Geneva for the summit meeting with US President Joe Biden. This is his second visit outside Russia this year. Putin came to India for 2+2 Talks. 
This is a very high level meeting in which Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held talks with his Russian counterparts, Sergey Shoygu and Sergey Lavrov met to discuss important points. Putin also met PM Modi. Referring to the Russian President as a “friend”, PM Modi said “our meeting today will strengthen India-Russia's Partnership. The initiatives that we take today will further increase the scope of our cooperation to new areas”. India and Russia signed 28 agreements on Monday 6 Dec. India underlined its goal of becoming Russia’s defence development and production partner from just a buyer. India also raised Chinese aggression in Ladakh and said India wants Russia to help with the matter. India-Russia also signed a 10-year military-technical partnership, as well as the plan to jointly produce the AK-203 assault rifles in India.
