England won their first World Cup ever yesterday in a nail-biting match that went the last ball of the match and then the last ball of the super over. With both ending in a tie. New Zealand won the toss and chose to bat first at the Lords cricket ground in London.  Henry Nicholls scoring 55 runs and Tom Latham scoring 47. These were the highest scored runs scored by New Zealand. However, their batting was very bad and they ended up scoring only 241- 8 in 50 overs. When it was England's turn to bat, their batting was not good enough. Ben Stokes scored 84 and did not get out. He helped England win. Jos Butler also helped and scored 59.

In the last over of the match, England needed 15 runs to win. At the 49.3rd over Stokes hit a six. At the 49.4th over he hit the ball and ran for two runs. A NZ player threw the ball at the wicketkeeper. However the ball hit Ben Stokes bat. The ball deflected and went for a four. Thus they scored 6 runs. With two balls left England needed 2 runs in 1 ball. On the last ball they ran for the two runs but were only able to complete one run before Adil Rashid was run out.  England scored 241 all out and the match got tied. This is why the match went to a super over.

Each team will send two batsmen out and play only one over, whoever has the highest score at the end of the over wins the match. England batted first and scored 15 runs.  New Zealand came out to bat and 16 runs needed to win the World Cup. New Zealand came out knowing they needed 16 runs in one over to win the match. They got a six but from the other balls were not able to get any more fours just one or two runs.

On the last ball, they were at 14 runs and needed 2 more runs to win the match. In the last ball NZ scored only 1 runs just and the Super over was a tie as well. In the match England scored a total of 26 fours and sixes compared to 17 of New Zealand in the match. This why they were announced as the winners. This is the first time England has won the World Cup Finals.
