The Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), which grants Indian citizenship to the non-Muslims of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh, was passed by Rajya Sabha on Wednesday 11th December 2019. The CAB has now been sent to President Ram Nath Kovind for his approval.  125 MPs in the Rajya voted yes for CAB and 99 voted no. For 6 hours MPs in the Rajya Sabha debated about CAB. There was a lot of chaos.

Amit Shah presented the CAB in the Rajya Sabha for their approval. When he said that the right of the people in Assam will be protected, Some MPs started heckling him.You all know that the Rajya Sabha proceedings are telecast Live on TV. When the MPs started heckling Shah, the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Venkaiah Naidu then immediately pressed a red light button. When he did this, the live telecast stopped.

He then warned the MPs to behave themselves otherwise he will ask them to leave. After this, the live again started again and everyone was well behaved and Amit Shah continued with the speech. Many have disagreed with the CAB law and have called it unconstitutional. As the Indian constitution is secular but the CAB law is giving citizenship only to people who are Non- Muslims.Even the USA is not happy with this law and as said if India continues, they will impose many sanctions on India.
