Halloween was actually a Celtic festival ande was called ‘Samhain’.The Celts lived thousands of years ago, in Ireland, the United Kingdom and northern France. For them 31st October was the end of summer and the beginning of the dark, cold winter. During those days, winters used to be very dangerous and many would die. People associated winter with death. The Celts believed that on the night before winter started which is 31st October, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred. On the night of October 31 they would Samhain, as they believed that the ghosts of the dead returned to earth.
