There is a severe outbreak of the Coronavirus all over the world. Around 3,000 people have died from the virus and many are infected. The WHO has released safety precautions we must all follow to keep us safe. Let me tell you about it today. The Coronavirus is new and scientists are still learning about it. It can make some people a little sick with a slight runny nose, other people get more sick and can have difficulty breathing and can get pneumonia. Some become extremely sick and have to hospitalised out of these some have died. The WHO and scientists all over the world are still researching and trying to find a vaccine. This virus can spread through respiratory droplets through coughing, sneezing, etc. Here are some basic measures you can take to protect yourself from the risk of coronavirus.

  1. Wash Your Hands

Make sure you wash your hands after coughing, sneezing, caring for the sick, before & after preparing food, etc. Wash your hands frequently with soap or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Keep safe distance avoid, hugging, kissing, etc. Make sure to keep a small bottle of hand sanitizer in your bag before going out, so that you can use it in the absence of water. Further, remember to eat only after cleaning your hands thoroughly. This will prevent the entry of any virus into your body.

  1. How to Use Mask Properly

Before wearing the mask wash your hand properly and use a sanitiser. Cover the mouth and nose with the mask and make sure there are no gaps. While using it, avoid touching the mask. If you touch it, clean it with a sanitiser. If you it is a single mask, remove it from behind and throw it in the dustbin after use and wash your hands.

  1. Protect Those Around You

Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately. Why? Droplets spread viruses. By following good respiratory hygiene you protect the people around you from viruses such as cold, flu and Coronavirus. Make sure you throw the used tissue in a dust bin and avoid spitting on the road. Stay home if you feel unwell. If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention and call in advance. Follow the directions of your local health authority.

  1. Do not touch your eyes, mouth or nose

It is advisable not to touch your eyes, mouth or nose with your hands while travelling. This is  because our hands touch many surfaces, some of which may be contaminated with viruses, and in case we touch our eyes, mouth or nose with contaminated hands, we may increase our risk of getting the infection. Remember that these can be easy entry points for viruses.

  1. Practise Food Safety

While cooking raw meat make sure you use a separate chopping board and wash your hands once you are done. Sick animals that have died must not be eaten. After touching any animal make sure you wash your hands properly.

  1. Stay Healthy While Travelling

Avoid travel if you have a cough or fever. If you become sick while travelling, inform the aircraft crew and seek medical help. If you have a cough, fever, cold, after travelling, go to your doctor and tell him about your travel history.
