In the upcoming winter season, the possibility of having a sore throat will increase. Bacterial or viral infection causes discomfort, irritation and pain in the throat. There are several medications available for this but some kitchen ingredients can solve the problem too. I will tell you some best home remedies for treating a sore throat.

1. Gargling with Saltwater:

The easiest home remedy for treating a sore throat is gargling with saltwater. Add 1/4 or 1/2 teaspoon of salt to a glass of warm water and mix well. Gargle with this salty water and spit it out. For good results, do this after every three hours. This will reduce possible swelling and keep your throat clean.

2. Honey:  

Honey consumed in its raw form, or mixed with green tea, milk or lemon juice is a very good remedy for treating throat infection. Sometimes it can be more effective than common cold medicines for reducing the soreness and providing relief from pain. This healing power is because of the antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties present in honey.It tastes better too.

3. Turmeric Milk:  

Milk infused with turmeric is also called the golden milk by health conscious people. It is an effective concoction to treat symptoms and problems related to common cold and sore throat. This milk can relieve throat pain by bringing down swelling.

4. Ginger Tea

Warm beverages like tea usually provide relief to sore throats. However, adding ginger can help greatly. Ginger helps to reduce throat pain but it can also kill viruses that cause respiratory illnesses.  Chamomile made from white flowers and peppermint made from mint and other herbal teas can help too.
